Wicked - Apollo Victoria Theatre

Earlier this month word first emerged of a casting overhaul for the long-running stage version of Wicked at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre, with David Witts replacing Bradley Jaden in the role of Fiyero from July 2018. Audiences will then be able to see the latter when he begins performances in Les Misérables at the Queen’s Theatre.

At the time, only Witts’ name was associated with the casting change, but we now have word on those set to join him onstage in the West End, with Chris Jarman and Rose O’Reilly playing Doctor Dillamond and Nessarose, respectively.

Wicked, of course, is the popular stage musical that takes audiences to the Land of Oz, the location popularised in the books and films related to The Wizard Of Oz. For Wicked, the action takes place long before Dorothy and Toto make their journeys there from Kansas and instead focuses on younger versions of famous characters. The plot follows Glinda and Elphaba whose rivalry spills out of childhood and soon threatens all of Oz as the former becomes Glinda the Good Witch and the latter Elpaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.

When Chris Jarman begins performances as Doctor Dillamond he will be instantly recognisable to theatregoers that have seen many of the West End’s most famous shows in recent years. He has appeared in Harry Potter And The Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre, The Book of Mormon at the Prince of Wales Theatre, Sister Act at the London Palladium and Gone With The Wind at the New London theatre, amongst others. Audiences might also recognise him from screen work that includes Johnny English Reborn and Doctor Who, to name but two.

Wicked remains one of the capital’s most popular shows and along with Les Misérables revealed new casting updates recently. It demonstrates that the West End’s highest profile productions continue to refresh so that audiences will find something new when they head to one of London’s historic theatres.

Chris Jarmen and Rose O’Reilly are amongst those joining Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre from Monday 23rd July 2018.
