Glengarry Glen Ross - Playhouse theatre, London

Well August is over and the West End updates start to roll-in again, with actors and writers returning to London following the Edinburgh Festival.

It means it is now the latter part of 2017, of course, which might make one assume that the biggest announcements of the year are behind us, but this week’s news includes a high profile revival of a popular play with some familiar faces taking on the lead roles.

Christian Slater will play Ricky Roma in David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross at the Playhouse Theatre from October, with Kris Marshall, of My Family and Death In Paradise fame, taking on the role of John Williamson.

Both of these parts are well known not just for this stage version, which premiered at the National Theatre in the early 1980s, but also from the film version in which Al Pacino and Kevin Spacey portrayed the respective parts.

For this new revival the cast also includes Robert Glenister as Dave Moss, Stanley Townsend as ‘The Machine’ and Don Warrington as George Aaronow. They follow in the footsteps of their big screen counterparts Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon and Alan Arkin respectively.

Glengarry Glen Ross takes us to a real estate agency and introduces us to a range of unscrupulous characters attempting to sell land at any cost. With immoral actions, fierce speeches and memorable interactions it has attracted fans from all over the world, with the stage version winning a Pulitzer Prize and the screen version bringing it to a wider audience, ensuring it is now David Mamet’s best known play.

Christian Slater is a well known actor who has appeared in productions on both sides of the Atlantic whilst also amassing an impressive screen presence over the last few decades. From True Romance to Churchill: The Hollywood Years, he has appeared in numerous films, whilst also adding television and stage work to his back catalogue.

And now he returns to a London stage, following previous appearances in Swimming With Sharks at the Vaudeville Theatre and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest at the Garrick and Gielgud Theatres.

Glengarry Glen Ross, under the direction of Sam Yates, returns to London with a run at the Playhouse Theatre from Thursday 26th October 2017 to Saturday 3rd February 2018.
