School of Rock - Gillian Lynne Theatre

The ongoing production of School of Rock is one of the most popular musicals in town, bringing in eager audiences to the Gillian Lynne Theatre (recently renamed from the New London theatre). With that in mind all eyes are now on the West End show as it announces its latest casting change, with a new Dewey Finn taking over from the latter part of August.

Craig Gallivan will step up to the role made famous by Jack Black in the original film version, in the process gaining a promotion as he is currently the alternate Dewey Finn under current star Stephen Leask.

School Of Rock tells the story of Dewey Finn, a down-on-his-luck musician who has just been kicked out of his band and also finds himself jobless. Then he hits on an idea and soon finds himself working as a substitute teacher by pretending to be his roommate. The only problem is that he doesn’t know much about teaching or the curriculum so must fall back on his original love – music – to get through to the kids, creating a band of schoolchildren to compete in the battle of the bands.

Craig Gallivan, in addition to performing as an alternate Dewey Finn at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, has also amassed numerous other credits in west end shows and regional productions. His credits include Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on a UK tour, Crime And Punishment at the National Theatre and Billy Elliot The Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre. Audiences might also recognise him from television appearances, including the series Stella.

Gallivan isn’t the only new cast member, however, as he will also be joined by Alan Pearson, Laura Tebbutt, Michelle Francis and Jake Sharp (replacing Gallivan as the alternate Dewey Finn).

School Of Rock continues at the Gillian Lynne Theatre and is booking there for performances up to Sunday 20th October 2019. Meanwhile, audiences have just over a month to catch Stephen Leask as Dewey Finn, with Craig Gallivan taking over performances full time on Wednesday 22nd August 2018.
