David Haig under Pressure at the Ambassadors Theatre

Pressure - Ambassadors Theatre

During the past four years an array of plays have appeared in the capital to mark the centenary of the First World War, which ended 100 years ago in 1918, and these have been a worthy way for the West End to mark an important anniversary and teach audiences about a key part of our history.

For the latest play headed to the Ambassadors Theatre, however, the focus is on the Second World War, with Pressure set to play the West End venue on the 74th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The play is the work of writer David Haig, who also stars in the production, and he is best known to audiences as an actor in a range of high profile West End shows and television productions. He plays the role of Group Captain James Stagg, the real life RAF meteorologist who was tasked with predicting the weather conditions ahead of the Normandy assault in 1944.

The cast will also include Laura Rogers, whilst Malcolm Sinclair plays General Eisenhower, whom Stagg famously convinced to change the date of the D-Day landings.

With the production transferring from the Chichester Festival Theatre and Park Theatre to the West End, David Haig commented “I am absolutely thrilled that Pressure is transferring to the West End on 6 June. What sublime timing that my play about the weather forecaster for D-Day, will open on the 74th anniversary of the D-Day invasions.

“The play has been profoundly fulfilling to write and perform. It's about one of the great unsung heroes of the 20th century and I'm so proud that his story will now be available to a West End audience. I couldn't be more excited.”

The play itself will focuses on the tense decisions made prior to one of the most important events of the Second World War, with Stagg’s prediction of bad weather leading to some important choices to be made, particularly when there are those that disagree with his prognosis.

The production is the latest show to appear in the Ambassadors Theatre, which recently said goodbye to its long-running show Stomp and has since seen a change of pace, welcoming the play Beginning at the start of this year and currently housing All Or Nothing: The Mod Musical.

Pressure opens at the Ambassadors Theatre on Wednesday 6th June 2018, then continues until Saturday 1st September 2018.
