The Price - Wyndham's Theatre

2019 is already looking good for Arthur Miller fans as two of his plays – All My Sons and The American Clock – are due to run at the Old Vic Theatre. But now we can add another to the list as the Theatre Royal Bath’s production of The Price, starring David Suchet, heads to the Wyndham’s Theatre in February.

Arthur Miller fans are never in short supply: the late American playwright has been behind some of the most important shows of the 20th century and so revivals of the work can always attract a crowd. With that in mind the arrival of The Price is certain to pique the interests of audiences across the capital.

The Price is set in the 20th century and looks at the consequences of the Great Depression three decades after it changed the world. We meet the character of Victor Franz (Brendan Coyle), who turned his back on college to care for his father as a result of the financial situation 30 years earlier, and he now finds himself selling his parents’ estate and sorting through their furniture. Other characters include the antique dealer Gregory Solomon (Suchet), Victor’s wife Esther (Sara Stewart) and his successful brother Walter (Adrian Lukis).

Suchet, Coyle, Stewart and Lukis all played their respective parts at the Theatre Royal Bath as well, with their star-power ensuring positive results.

Audiences in the West End will be given the same treatment, with many undoubtedly flocking to see the work of David Suchet, one of the most respected actors in the country. Best known as Hercule Poirot in the ITV adaptations of Agatha Christie’s novels, he has also appeared in The Lover / The Collection at the Harold Pinter Theatre in 2018 and previously delved into Arthur Miller’s work with All My Sons at the Apollo Theatre in 2010.

The Wyndham’s Theatre is currently providing the stage for The Height of the Storm, which runs until December, and stars Jonathan Pryce and Eileen Atkins as a married couple facing problems five decades into their marriage. When it ends its run the West End venue will then welcome comedian Bill Bailey with his new show Larks In Transit.

The Price then runs at the venue from Monday 11th February 2019 (with previews starting on Tuesday 5th February 2019).
