Les Miserables - Queen's Theatre

With news of long-running shows closing (like Stomp), new ones opening (like Beginning at the Ambassadors or The Exorcist at the Phoenix Theatre), we now turn our attentions to the capital’s longest running show, Les Misérables, which continues strongly in its 33rd year.

The production has revealed its latest batch of cast members, set to join the production in the New Year, and one of the names amongst the performers is David Thaxton, who is set to return to the role of Javert.

This will be good news for theatregoers who missed the experienced performer playing at the venue back in 2014 as he returns to a role that was the latest in a long line of appearances in the popular production.

Les Misérables is, of course, the epic tale from Victor Hugo that started life as a book and is now one of the most famous musicals in the world. Set in France during the early decades of the 19th century, we follow a range of characters through their various struggles. Chief amongst these characters are Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert, the former an ex-con who is on-the-run following the theft of silver and the latter the man tasked with stopping him. This results in one of the most famous cat-and-mouse pursuits in literature.

David Thaxton’s incarnation of Javert was seen during the 2014/2015 season, though he had previously played the parts of Enjolras and the Bishop of Digne (the latter as an understudy) in earlier years. His other credits include Candide at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Love Never Dies at the Adelphi Theatre and Passion at the Donmar Warehouse.

When he steps back into the role he will form part of a cast that includes Emma Barr, Adam Bayjou, Oliver Brenin, Ciarán Bowling, Hugo Chiarella, Andy Conaghan, Killian Donnelly, Alice Ellen Wright, Sophie-May Feek, Catherine Hannay, Antony Hansen, Holly-Anne Hull, James Hume, Karis Jack, Ciaran Joyce, Charlotte Kennedy, Katie Kerr, Rebecca Lafferty, Jo Loxton, John Lumsden, Anna McGarahan, Steve Meo, Hyoie O’Grady, Jonny Purchase, Lauren Soley, Carley Stenson, Jacqueline Tate, Shaq Taylor, George Tebbutt, Lee Van Geleen and Danny Whitehead and Paul Wilkins.

David Thaxton joins Les Misérables on Monday 22nd January 2018, with the production currently booking at the Queen’s Theatre for performances up to Saturday 20th October 2018.
