Supermodel Postpones Her Appearance Due to Mother’s Emergency Surgery

Around a month ago it was announced that the supermodel and actress Christie Brinkley would be attempting to repeat her Broadway success on a London stage in July 2011 by reprising the role of Roxie Hart in “Chicago” at the Cambridge Theatre.

These plans are still set to go ahead but Brinkley has been forced to postpone her engagement with the production owing to emergency surgery being undertaken by her mother. Though it has not been confirmed when she will make it to the stage, producers insist that she will do so as soon as possible, though they don’t have long; “Chicago” is set to close its doors on Saturday 27th August 2011.

Brinkley has appeared in wide range of television and film roles over the years, in addition to lending her vocals to songs like Bill Joel’s “River of Dreams”, and eventually made her debut on Broadway in April 2011 when she began her tenure in the role of Roxie Hart in “Chicago”. So when audiences pick up Theatre Tickets to witness the show at the Cambridge Theatre they will witness the work of an acclaimed and recognisable actress, with credits like “National Lampoon’s Vacation” and “Ugly Betty”. She has also worked as a model, with pictures on the front covers of numerous magazines.

“Chicago” tells the story of Roxie Hart (Sarah Soetaert, who remains in the role until Brinkley steps in), a woman who has dreams of being in the spotlight, as her ambitions manifest themselves in an unwanted way as she is thrown into prison for the murder of her husband at the height of The Cult of ‘celebrity criminal’ in 1920s Chicago. On the inside she meets the Vaudevillian performer Velma Kelly (Amra-Faye Wright) and the pair decide to make their bid for freedom so that they can follow their dreams, enlisting the help of sleazy lawyer Billy Flynn.

Brinkley was due to take on the role of Roxie Hart until Saturday 6th August 2011, after which the production would continue until Saturday 27th August 2011. The former date might change, though no details are currently available, however the show is still due to close to make way for “Matilda The Musical”.
