Derren Brown Brings Underground to the Playhouse Theatre

Friday, 28th Jul 2017

Over the years audiences have been able to rely on Derren Brown bringing his latest shows to the West End, with numerous productions heading to locations like the Garrick, the Adelphi and the Palace Theatres over the last decade and a half. This tradition is set to continue in 2017 as he presents a best-of compilation show entitled Underground at the Playhouse Theatre from September.

It is the first West End show for the famous illusionist since Miracle, which played at the Palace Theatre in 2015, and whereas that show invited audiences to make their lives better through improved thinking Underground will revisit some the best parts of years gone by, albeit as part of a show that feels brand new.

And there will be plenty of material to choose from. After all, Brown has been busy on the stage since his first live show in 2003 so whenever you haven’t seen him on television screens he has been busy providing astonishment to his fans in the West End and beyond. Prior to his last Theatreland show, Miracle, in 2015 he has also presented Infamous, Svengali, Enigma, Mind Reader: An Evening Of Wonder, Something Wicked This Way Comes and, the original, Derren Brown Live.

Of course he is also known for his numerous television series and specials which have helped shape him into the best known figure of illusion in British popular culture.

The production appears from September after the run of the popular adaptation of The Kite Runner, which runs at the Playhouse Theatre until August. Matthew Spangler’s adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s novel tells the story of friendship, betrayal and the subsequent guilt felt by the character of Amir towards his friend Hassan five years before the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan.

So it will be a change of pace for the venue as the year progresses, with the Playhouse Theatre swapping one well-received show for a tried and tested performer whose work is always met with great anticipation.

Derren Brown: Underground runs at the Playhouse Theatre in London’s West End from Monday 11th September 2017 to Saturday 14th October 2017.
