Since Tina the Musical’s first performance at the Aldwych Theatre, the jukebox musical has taken the world by storm. Opening in 2018, the musical details the public and private life of Tina Turner, one of the greatest music legends of all time.

Do you know your Tina the Musical facts? Let’s take a look at the musical here:

The musical officially opened on 17th April 2018 at the Aldwych Theatre, with Tina Turner attending the performance.

Even though we know her as Tina Turner, this is just her stage name. Did you know that the award-winning star was born Anna Mae Bullock, growing up in Nutbush, Tennessee. She definitely broke away from those Nutbush City Limits!

Tina the Musical is not the first jukebox musical about her. In 2012, Soul Sister opened at the Savoy Theatre, but it played a limited run of six weeks.

The original cast of Tina the Musical starred Adrienne Warren as the titular vocalist and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith as Ike Turner.

Kobna Holdbrook-Smith won the musical’s only Olivier Award, taking the best actor in a musical category at the 2019 ceremony.

Tina the Musical is written by Katori Hall. An American playwright, her previous shows include The Mountaintop, which won the 2010 Olivier Award for best new play.

There are 24 Tina Turner songs in the show, including “Shake a Tail Feather”, “Proud Mary” and “River Deep Mountain High”.

Tina the Musical transferred to Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, officially opening on 7th November 2019.

Tina Turner has sold over 200 million records worldwide, with 34 of her songs reaching the top 40 in the UK charts.

Currently, Tina the Musical is at the Aldwych Theatre to 23rd January 2021.
