The Laurence Marks And Maurice Gran Musical Makes Its Way Back To The West End

It’s the turn of the Wyndham’s Theatre to enter the headlines today in a month that has mostly seen the developments of the Phoenix in the spotlight. The news is that “Dreamboats & Petticoats” is set to return to the capital after bowing-out at the Playhouse Theatre in August. The show is going to begin performances at the new venue this month, with an initial run that will last to January 2013. There is no word on whether it will find yet another new home after that.

“Dreamboats & Petticoats” is the famous musical from Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran that had been performing at the Playhouse Theatre since January 2010 and prior to that it also appeared at the Savoy Theatre in 2009. So it has a long history here and its re-emergence at the Wyndham’s Theatre will ensure it has a home until at least the New Year.
The original story – plus its musical accompaniment – is inspired by a compilation album of the same name that celebrates rock ‘n’ roll, with many musical numbers from well known bands and artists of the 1950s and 1960s.

As for its plot, “Dreamboats & Petticoats” focuses on the characters of Norman and Bobby, two musicians that compete for the attention of their female fans. Then Laura arrives on the scene and she has it all when it comes to looks. But that’s not all; she is also a dab hand at the guitar and it could be her skills that beckon rock ‘n’ roll stardom.
Songs are derived from the back catalogues of artists like The Shadows, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran and more, adding to the show’s period setting.

The popular production has also featured an array of big names and one of the most recent additions to the show at the Playhouse being Des O’Connor.

The Wyndham’s Theatre was recently the home of “Abigail’s Party” with Jill Halfpenny in a lead role, whilst its recent appearances in the spotlight were thanks to the announcement of the upcoming “Quartermaine’s Terms” with Rowan Atkinson, which begins in January.

“Dreambots & Petticoats” will run at the Wyndham’s Theatre from Tuesday 16th October 2012 to Saturday 19th January 2013.
