Wicked - Apollo Victoria Theatre

It’s been a while since an update emerged for the popular musical Wicked, continuing its successful run at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, with its last major announcement in January when it extended its run into 2019.

This time around, however, it is the cast that finds itself in the spotlight as a range of new performers join the production in July. Most of those names are yet-to-be-announced, but we do know the identity of the new Fiyero, taking over from Bradley Jaden, and he takes the form of EastEnders actor David Witts.

Fiyero is a young, human, version of The Scarecrow from The Wizard Of Oz in this prequel story that focuses on the rise of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the Good Witch. Their rivalry begins on the playground and eventually threatens to spill out into the world beyond, threatening all of Oz.

The prequel story has proven enormously popular with audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, demonstrated not only in its numerous awards and critical acclaim, but its numerous booking extensions as audiences continue to come back for more.

And the presence of a well known EastEnders actor will only make interest grow further. Witts was a part of the famous soap from 2012 to 2013 when he played Joey Branning and has also made his way to the stage in Hairspray The Musical in Leicester and an Aladdin pantomime in Hull. His work has also taken him across the Atlantic where he appeared in the television series Recovery Road and I Ship It as the characters of Craig and Luke, respectively.

The outgoing Fiyero, Bradley Jaden, has been playing the part since July 2017, joining the cast alongside other performers like current Elphaba Alice Fearn. Jaden also played the part on UK and international tours of Wicked, with other credits like Les Misérables at the Queen’s Theatre and Shrek The Musical at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

David Witts, as well as other to-be-confirmed actors, join Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre on Monday 23rd July 2018.
