More Cast Members Announced for the Upcoming West End Transfer of Chichester Hit

Towards the end of last year it was revealed that West End audiences would be getting the chance to see Imelda Staunton on the stage once again as she brings her hit performance in Stephen Sondheim musical Gypsy to the Savoy Theatre. The show previously played at the Chichester Festival Theatre and heads to Theatreland with former Doctor Who star Peter Davison in a supporting role.

Now more cast members have been announced, with Gemma Sutton also reprising her role from Chichester.

Gypsy tells the story of Imelda Staunton’s character Rose, plus her daughters June and Louise, as she attempts to make her family famous in the American music hall scene. June is the current star of the show but she soon quits and it is up to Louise to step into her shoes – something of which she might not be capable. We meet the characters in an era of great change for the show business world and it is clear that it is harder than ever to make it.

Gemma Sutton heads to the Savoy Theatre having previously worked at the venue as the understudy Elle Woods in Legally Blonde The Musical, though her other credits include Blues In The Night at the Hackney Empire, Hairspray on tour, Oklahoma! on tour and Dames At Sea at the Union Theatre. Beyond her stage work audiences with theatre tickets might also recognise her from the likes of Doctors and Cilla.

When she gets to the Savoy Theatre she will be starring alongside Billy Hartman, Dan Burton, Lauren Hall, Lucinda Shaw, Jack Chissick, Louise Gold Harry Dickman, Roger Dipper, Lara Pulver, Clare Halse, Anita Louise Combe, Luke Street, Kieran Jae, Julie Legrand, Tom Hodgkins, Danielle Morris, Damien Poole and Natalie Woods.

Imelda will undoubtedly provide a big draw for the upcoming production, but her reteaming with much of the cast of the Chichester Festival Theatre production will ensure that the magic found at the former venue can be repeated in the West End.

Gypsy runs at the Savoy Theatre from Wednesday 15th April 2015 (previews from Saturday 28th March 2015).
