Waitress - Adelphi Theatre

With Christmas upon us you would be forgiven for currently focusing on the festive offerings in London’s West End, whether it is the annual production of The Snowman or one of the capital’s productions of A Christmas Carol. However, the New Year brings a host of new shows and the announcements continue to trickle in regarding their casts.

The latest comes from the upcoming show Waitress, opening at the Adelphi Theatre in February, as Jack McBrayer has been recruited for a lead role alongside the previously announced Katharine McPhee and others.

There have been various casting announcements since Waitress was first revealed for the Adelphi Theatre earlier this year, with the most recent involving the likes of Laura Baldwin in early December. This time around, however, the news involves a familiar American actor whose work on television screens will make him instantly recognisable in the West End.

Waitress tells the story of Jenny Hunterson, played by Katharine McPhee, who we meet when she is at her lowest ebb and follow as she finds new meaning for her life. She has a job making pies and she waits tables in a small town, though part of her unhappiness derives from her crumbling, abusive marriage to Earl (Peter Hannah), which has led her astray. So when she discovers a baking competition in a neighbouring town, she makes the trip to a new location to find a new purpose.

Jack McBrayer has a range of television and film credits to his name, with Waitress marking the first occasion in which he will appear on a West End stage. Prior to Waitress, audiences will recognise him from 30 Rock, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, The Middle, Wander Over Yonder, Drunk History, The Jack And Triumph Show and The Increasingly Poor Decisions Of Todd Margaret, amongst others. His film credits include Wreck-It Ralph and Cat & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore.

Audiences can catch Jack McBrayer in Waitress when performances begin at the Adelphi Theatre from Wednesday 6th March 2019 (previews from Friday 8th February 2019). It is initially booking to Saturday 15th May 2019.
