James Graham’s Quiz headed to the Noël Coward Theatre

Monday, 4th Dec 2017

James Graham’s work seems to be a permanent fixture of the West End if his current line-up of plays is anything to go by. This year alone he has seen his shows Ink and Labour Of Live appear in the capital, playing at the Duke of York’s Theatre and the Noël Coward Theatre, respectively, but now audiences can add his latest work to the list of must-see West End productions.

Quiz, his play that first appeared at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2017, will head to the Noël Coward Theatre in March 2018, providing a dramatisation of a famous incident of cheating on the popular gameshow Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Graham’s work has a tendency to find a real-life parallel, with Ink focusing on the rise of Rupert Murdoch, Labour Of Love delving into the workings of a regional constituency MP and previous shows also looking at British social issues. So Quiz is no different as the focus is on a 2001 scandal in which the contestant Charles Ingram attempted to cheat on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? It was a case that led to a guilty verdict in court for Ingram, his wife Diana and accomplice Tecwen Whittock.

The show itself will cast a magnifying glass on the culture of British quiz shows and concepts surrounding the truth.

Quiz, Labour Of Love and Ink aren’t the only shows penned by James Graham in recent years, of course, as the writer has had a regular presence in the capital. His previous credits include The Vote, which appeared at the Donmar Warehouse in 2015, Privacy, also at the Donmar Warehouse, in 2014 and This House, which appeared at the National Theatre in 2012.

But for now all eyes are on Quiz, which heads to the Noël Coward Theatre next year. The venue is currently the home of the mentioned Labour Of Love, with Girl From The North Country opening in December. Quiz then plays at the West End location from Tuesday 10th April 2018 (previews from Saturday 31st March 2018).
