The Hollywood Actor Joining Damian Lewis in the West End Production of David Mamet’s Play

Towards the end of last year it was announced that audiences would have the latest opportunity to see Damian Lewis on a British stage as he takes on David Mamet’s play American Buffalo.
Now more big names have been added to the cast at the Wyndham’s Theatre and one of them is the acclaimed and popular screen actor John Goodman, who makes his West End debut in the production. He is announced alongside Tom Sturridge, a Tony Award-nominated British actor well known for appearing in The Boat That Rocked.

Mamet’s American Buffalo was first staged in 1975 and takes those with theatre tickets to Chicago, where a story of crooks, greed and double crossing unfolds all thanks to the purchase of a Buffalo nickel for $90. Don (Goodman) is the owner of the shop selling the item and he quickly realises that he could have received more out of the sale, having undervalued the coin, and concocts a plan to get it back. So he hires Walter ‘Teach’ Cole (Lewis) and Bobby (Sturridge) to put together a heist and ensure its return, but when the double crossing starts it is clear that things are not going to go according to plan.

John Goodman is one of many American performers who needs little in the way of introduction thanks to his appearances in numerous cult films and high profile Blockbusters. He is perhaps best known for his popular appearance in the Coen Brothers film The Big Lebowski, in addition to other hits from the duo that include the more recent Inside Llewyn Davis, though he has also appeared in everything from Monsters University to The Flintstones. Though this is his West End debut he has previously appeared in American productions of Waiting For Godot at Studio 54, New York, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui off-Broadway and numerous other production across the country like Antony & Cleopatra.

2015 is shaping up to a big year for the capital when it comes to big names with the recent announcement that Bradley Cooper will be starring in The Elephant Man at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and Kevin Spacey will be reprising his work in Clarence Darrow at the Old Vic Theatre.

American Buffalo runs at the Wyndham’s Theatre under the direction of Daniel Evans from Monday 27th April 2015 (previews from Thursday 16th April 2015) to Saturday 27th June 2015.
