Bitter Wheat

The West End will be home to the world premiere of Bitter Wheat at the Garrick Theatre, the latest play by David Mamet. John Malkovich will play the role of a leading Hollywood producer who falls from grace, with Mamet's latest writings set to provide audiences with a chance to see yet another one of his thought-provoking plays.

David Mamet was inspired to write Bitter Wheat based on recent scandals within Hollywood, notably accusations in relation to Harvey Weinstein. As a result, the synopsis of Bitter Wheat  will centre around Barney Fein, a Hollywood producer who falls from a coveted position within the industry to a depraved Hollywood mogul, with money, sex and power proving to be strong influences.

The play will be directed by David Mamet himself, who has won a Pulitzer Prize for his 1984 play Glengarry Glen Ross, last performed in 2017 at the Playhouse Theatre.

Mamet will direct a star-studded cast including Academy Award winner David Malkovich as Barney Fein, Doon Mackichan as Fein’s assistant, Sondra and Ioanna Kimbrook in her professional theatre debut.

Bitter Wheat will open at the Garrick Theatre on 7th June 2019, with tickets available now.
