Judy Kuhn added to Fiddler On The Roof at the Menier Chocolate Factory

Monday, 22nd Oct 2018

In September the news first emerged that the 1964 musical Fiddler On The Roof will be returning to the capital from November with Andy Nyman taking on the lead role of Tevye at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Now more names have been revealed for the upcoming production, with Judy Kuhn – known for playing the role of Golde on Broadway - amongst the performers taking on lead roles under the direction of Sir Trevor Nunn.

Nyman’s character of Teyve forms the basis of Fiddler On The Roof. He is a Jewish man in early 20th century Russia whose five daughters take actions that take him further away from his Jewish routes. It is a changing and different world for him as his daughters’ choice of husbands forms a key part of his conundrum.
It being a musical it also features songs from composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick, including Sunrise Sunset, If I Were A Rich Man, Miracle Of Miracles and Do You Love? amongst a host of others. These songs form part of its Tony Award-winning score.

So with Andy Nyman in a lead role it is bound to attract attention, which will only be amplified by the choice of Judy Kuhn as Golde. Not only has she previously played the part on Broadway, she has also appeared in a wealth of other shows on both sides of the Atlantic, including Funny Girl at the New Amsterdam Theatre, Aspects Of Love at the Prince Of Wales Theatre and Les Misérables: The Dream Cast In Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 1995. She has also provided her singing voice to numerous Disney animated movies, whilst making various other film and television appearances.

Hers isn’t the only new name announced for Fiddler On The Rood, however, as she is revealed alongside Harriet Bunton, Dermot Canavan, Stewart Clarke, Matt Corner, Joshua Gannon, Louise Gold, Kirsty MacLaren and Molly Osborne.

The Menier Chocolate Factory is currently the home of Hugh Whitemore’s Pack Of Lies, which runs until mid-November. Fiddler On The Roof then runs at the venue from Wednesday 5th December 2018 (previews from Friday 23rd November 2018) to Saturday 9th March 2019.
