Quiz - Noel Coward Theatre

With revelations about new shows emerging in recent weeks we now turn our attentions to the latter part of 2017. This was when we first got word that Quiz, the most recent play from the pen of James Graham, is headed to the Noël Coward Theatre following its successful appearance at the Chichester Festival Theatre.

Graham is known for tackling subjects that are close to the British cultural zeitgeist, whether they involve politics – as in Labour of Love, This House and The Vote – or media – such as Ink – and his latest is no exception as it delves into the British game show. This of course means that the performers heading to the stage will be playing real-life people.

For Quiz, one of those people is Chris Tarrant, as it takes a look at an infamous episode in the history of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? It was the case in which Major Charles Ingram attempted to cheat his way to the jackpot and paid the legal price in the process.

Keir Charles has been revealed to be playing Tarrant onstage alongside Gavin Spokes in the role of Ingram. They both appeared in the production when it ran in Chichester and both have an array of credits to their name at the Chichester Festival Theatre and beyond.

Keir Charles, for example, has appeared around London in shows like Elling at the Trafalgar Studios, Mydidae, also at the Trafalgar Studios, A Christmas Carol at the Noel Coward Theatre, The Tragedy Of Thomas Hobbes for the Royal Shakespeare Company and Incomplete And Random Acts Of Violence at the Royal Court Theatre, amongst others. Audiences might also recognise his television work that encompasses everything from EastEnders to Casualty.

Charles and Spokes will both appear alongside the full cast of Sharon Ballard, Greg Haiste, Mark Meadows, Henry Pettigrew, Stephanie Street, Jay Villiers, Lizzie Winkler and Sarah Woodward.

The Noel Coward Theatre is currently the home of Girl From the North Country, with The Lieutenant of Inishmore set to play there in June. The latter is Martin McDonagh’s classic play about a disturbed man getting revenge for his murdered pet, set during the time of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Quiz will make its appearance at the West End venue between those two productions, playing at the Noel Coward Theatre from Tuesday 10th April 2018 (previews from Saturday 31st March 2018) to Saturday 16th June 2018.
