New Comedy Set for the Stage in September 2013 with Clive Exton Writing and Harry Burton Directing

A brand new show entitled “Barking In Essex” has been announced for the stage of the Wyndham’s Theatre next year, which will see two stars in Lee Evans and Sheila Hancock makes their way to the West End. The venue has a busy year ahead of it; with “Dreamboats and Petticoats” completing its run in January, “Quartermaine’s Terms” set to follow it the same month and “Relatively Speaking” set to appear from May, but this should be something that will be on many theatregoers’ radars as the year goes on.

Evans is best known as a comedian, with many live tours under his belt and television appearances. However, he has also carved out a career as an actor, ranging from his own shows “The World of Lee Evans” and “So What Now?” to appearances in movies like “The Fifth Element”, “There’s Something About Mary”, “Mousehunt” and “The Medallion”. In addition to appearances in other shows like “Doctor Who” he has also made his way to the stage, perhaps most notably in “The Producers” at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and “The Dumb Waiter” at the Trafalgar Studios.

Meanwhile, Sheila Hancock is perhaps best known to current audiences for her work as a judge on “Over the Rainbow”, the show that led to “The Wizard Of Oz” appearing at the London Palladium, however her career on the stage and screen spans decades. She has appeared in movies like “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” and “Three Men and a Little Lady” as well as stage shows like “Cabaret” at the Lyric Theatre (earning her an Olivier Award) and “Sister Act the Musical” at the London Palladium.

“Barking in Essex” follows an infamous gangster in Essex, who returns home after seven years behind bars hoping to find his stash of £3.5 million and faces his dysfunctional family. It was penned by the late Clive Exton, known for television and film work, and is set to be directed by Harry Burton.

London theatre audiences can see “Barking in Essex” at the Wyndham’s Theatre from Monday 16th September 2013 (previews from Friday 6th September 2013) to Saturday 4th January 2014.
