Busted Performer and Phantom of the Opera star Heading to the Apollo Victoria Theatre

The latest casting news to emerge from the West End concerns the ever popular musical “Wicked”, which continues its run at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. The production will be welcoming both Matt Willis and Gina Beck to the production, whilst also welcoming back Desmond Barrit, who previously starred as the Wizard back in 2008.

Additional new cast members include Lillie Flynn, Christopher Howell and Adam Pettigrew, adding a range of new faces to the stage in the West End.

Mat Willis is best known as one of the members of the popular boy band Busted and has also released work as a solo artist (with songs such as “Don’t Let It Go to Waste” and “Up All Night”). But he has also worked in other capacities as well, including actor and television presenter with credits that include “Casualty”, “The Bill”, “I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!” and the touring version of “Footloose the Musical”.

But London theatre audiences will also get the chance to witness Gina Beck in the production, having previously appeared in west end shows such as “The Phantom of the Opera” at Her Majesty’s Theatre. Her other credits include “Les Miserables” at the Queen’s Theatre, “The Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Show” at the O2 Arena and various other touring and regional productions around the country.

And the production also welcomes back Desmond Barrit to the stage, who portrayed the Wizard back in 2008 when Nigel Planer stepped down from the role. The Award-winning actor, who earned a Laurence Olivier Award for his part in “The Comedy of Errors” at the Barbican Theatre (Royal Shakespeare Company), has previously appeared in “Jacobowsky and the Colonel” and “The Magistrate” at The National Theatre, “The Constant Couple” for the Royal Shakespeare Company and “The History Boys” at the Wyndham’s Theatre.

“Wicked” is, of course, the hit musical prequel to “The Wizard Of Oz” and charts the early years of the Wicked Witch of the West. It is currently booking at the Apollo Victoria Theatre until Saturday 27th October 2012, with the new cast joining on Monday 12th December 2011.
