Dates Confirmed for the Upcoming Revival of the Classic Musical

Back in June it was revealed that a revival of Miss Saigon was due to appear at the Prince Edward Theatre, replacing the current production of Jersey Boys, which would subsequently transfer to the Piccadilly Theatre. Now an update emerges as it is revealed that the show will run from May 2014, the quarter-century anniversary year of the hit West End musical, which originally ran at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from 1989 to 1999.

Miss Saigon is based upon Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly and takes audiences back to the mid-1970s during the occupation of Saigon by United States forces. Amongst this Vietnam War-backdrop we witness a love story between the American GI – John – and a Vietnamese club worker – Kim. The latter works at a club owned by ‘The Engineer’ and though John begins by paying for her time their meeting leads to something else altogether.

Musical numbers throughout the show include The Movie In My Mind, The Morning Of The Dragon, Let Me See His Western Nose, I’d Give My Life To You and Fall Of Saigon, among others.

Miss Saigon is one of the most successful musicals of the late 20th century and its return to the capital will be highly anticipated for those on the look-out for new theatre tickets. With lyrics from Richard Maltby Jr and Alain Boublil plus music from Claude-Michel Schönberg  (the latter two also penning the book) it has stood the test of time and also been the recipient of Laurence Olivier Awards, plus additional nominations, during its original run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. It also made its way across the Atlantic where its Broadway run earned numerous Tony Awards.  Other productions have followed on various international stages.

The new production is directed by Laurence Conner and arrives in the capital following many previous appearances on the road in the UK. It is likely to be one of the most-talked about shows in the West End as further news – such as casting announcements – emerges.

Miss Saigon is due to open at the Prince Edward Theatre on Saturday 3rd May 2014 with an initial booking period that takes it to Saturday 25th October 2014.
