Mamma Mia! - Novello Theatre

This week we turn our attentions back to the hit production of Mamma Mia! which remains at the Novello Theatre in London’s West End. It’s not been long since it was last in the spotlight, of course, with Sara Poyzer recently announced as the new Donna (taking over from Linzi Hateley) from June 2017, but now more new names have been revealed courtesy of a new press release.

It means that if you are planning on seeing Mamma Mia! from June onwards you will see a lot of fresh faces on the stage. The latest announcement gives us the names of Alishia-Marie Blake, Stuart Hickey, Mark Isherwood, Matt Jordan-Pidgeon, Tyler Kennington, Madeleine Leslay, Natasha O’Brien, Alice O’Hanlon, Alexanda O’Reilly, Adam Paul-Robertson, Oli Reynolds and Katy Stredder.

Mamma Mia! is, of course, one of the most famous jukebox musicals running in the capital, celebrating the songs of ABBA alongside an original and heartwarming story. It follows Sophie and Donna Sheridan, daughter and mother living together on a Greek island, with Sophie’s wedding on the horizon. She wants nothing more than for her father to walk her down the aisle but, not knowing who he is, consults her mother’s diary for clues and manages to narrow it down to three men. But with time running out she is forced to invite all three, much to Donna’s distress!

Along the way we hear popular tunes like Waterloo, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Thank You for The Music and, of course, Mamma Mia! amongst many others.

The production has been running at the Novello Theatre since 2012 when it moved from its previous home of the Prince of Wales Theatre to make way for The Book of Mormon. It continues to run strong and remains one of the most famous musicals currently running in the capital. Seeing has it has been running since 1999 it is also amongst the longest-running as well.

The new cast members join Mamma Mia! on Monday 12th June 2017. The production is booking at the Novello Theatre to Saturday 3rd March 2018.
