Heathers The Musical - Theatre Royal Haymarket

One of London’s newest musicals, Heathers, began its run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket at the beginning of the month and is set to continue until late November. The production, a transfer from The Other Palace, already announced Carrie Hope Fletcher and Jamie Muscato as the two leads, but another performer has been announced in the form of Nathan Amzi, an actor with plenty of experience on the musical theatre stage.

The story centres on the character of Veronica Sawyer (Fletcher), a student of Westerberg High School, who meets the new kid in town, JD  (Muscato) and with whom plots some horrifying forms of revenge and notoriety. The dark comedy is based on the cult 1980s film of the same name, which starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater when it was released in 1989, and has proven a success now it has returned as a stage musical in London.

And it being a musical it features various songs such as Shine A Light, Fight For Me and Freeze Your Brain, amongst many others.
Nathan Amzi heads to the West End having amassed a lot of experience singing and starring in shows like Aladdin at the Prince Edward Theatre and In The Heights at the King’s Cross Theatre.

He commented on his new casting announcement as Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper, saying “I have loved jumping in becoming a part of this incredibly talented company! They are a true theatre family from the producers, creatives, cast, through every department.

“It’s been the fastest rehearsal I’ve ever had to performance, which was only possible with this extraordinary team.

“When I saw the show as an audience member it blew me away, it’s high-octane fun, full of heart backed by a stellar company. So to join their family is a joy.”

Heathers The Musical is the latest in a long line of films-turned-musicals opening in the West End, with the capital also the home of Aladdin, The Lion King and School of Rock that stand alongside many past hits as well.

It opened at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in early September and is booking at the West End location for performance up to Saturday 24th November 2018.
