Sebastian Torkia and Others Head to the Pride Land for the West End’s Disney Musical

It has been announced that “The Lion King” has received a cast make-over at its home of the Lyceum Theatre in London’s West End. Those with Theatre Tickets will see the likes of Sebastian Torkia, Jacquelyn Hodges, Damian Baldet and Ava Brennan join the cast in the roles of Ed, Shenzi, Timon and Nala respectively, with further additional cast members joining the returning Shaun Escoffery and George Asprey. The show is currently booking to Sunday 8th January 2012.

Sebastia Torkia is an actor who has accumulated various West End credits over a long career, whilst also appearing in movie versions of acclaimed west end shows. His credits include “La Cage Aux Folles” at the Playhouse Theatre, as well as “Guys and Dolls”, “Grease” and “Women Beware Women” at The National Theatre. Around the country he has also appeared in productions of “Singin’ in the Rain” whilst his screen credits include “Phantom of the Opera”, “Mamma Mia!” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. Hodges, Baldet and Brennan have also accumulated various credits over the years.

“The Lion King” takes its cues from the 1994 Disney movie of the same name and follows Simba the Lion Cub from his birth to his redemption as an adult. At the beginning the animals of the Prideland are gathering to witness Simba’s birth – the new prince to King Mufasa – and he eventually watches in horror as Mufasa is killed at the hands of Simba’s Uncle Scar. With the blame pinned on him, Simba flees the Prideland and leaves his life behind and it will not be until many years later that he decides to return and face Scar once and for all.

Other new cast members in the production include Jose Alves, Cleveland Cathnott, Darcel Frederik, Jamie Golding, Aisha Jawando, Curtis Lee Scott, Wade Lewin, Francisco Lins and Momo Yeung.

London theatre Guide also reports that cast members Shaun Escoffery and George Asprey will remain in the production as Mufasa and Scar respectively.

The Lion King has been running at the Lyceum Theatre since 1999 and is currently taking bookings until Sunday 8th January 2012.
