Nigel Planer to take on Doctor Who stage role

Thursday, 26th Aug 2010

Nigel Planer has been announced as taking part in the new live Doctor Who stage show in a specially-written role.

The actor, who is most famous for his performance as the hippy Neil in the TV show The Young Ones, will join the arena tour when it begins next month.

Steve Moffatt, who took over writing the show for the latest series featuring Matt Smith in lead role, wrote the new part just for the show.

Named Vorgenson, the character has the skill to conjure up any of the Time Lord's enemies, including Darleks and Cybermen, to show to the audience.

Planer said: "I'm incredibly excited to be joining Doctor Who Live and this role is something of a boyhood dream come true."

The show is to stop at nine different locations around the country, beginning in London on October 8th and taking in cities including Sheffield and Liverpool before ending in Belfast of November 7th.
