Only Fools and Horses - The Musical - Theatre Royal Haymarket

A range of shows will be opening their doors in the West End in 2019, with many returning favourites like Mary Poppins and Broadway transfers such as Dear Evan Hansen. However, another show headed to the capital next year will be a home-grown British show from some familiar names.

Only Fools And Horses The Musical is set to run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, allowing theatregoers to revisit the iconic sitcom featuring the characters of Del Boy, Rodney, Grandad and more. The show is bound to attract audiences young and old, not only providing some nostalgia but also introducing a new generation to the beloved series.

Paul Whithouse has penned the script to the production (he will also play Grandad) alongside Jim Sullivan. The latter is the son of the late John Sullivan, who originally penned the television series, and the writer’s estate has endorsed the production.

Only Fools And Horses originally ran between 1981 and 1991, featuring the exploits of Del Boy (played by David Jason onscreen) and his brother Rodney (played by Nicholas Lyndhurst onscreen) as they attempt various money-making schemes. Set in Peckham, South-East London, it also features various iconic supporting characters like Grandad, Boycie and Trigger, amongst others (as well as Uncle Albert in later series).

Del Boy and Rodney will be played by Tom Bennett and Ryan Hutton at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, with Whitehouse following in the footsteps of Lennard Pearce in the role of Grandad.

Whitehouse is well known for a range of television comedies, including Harry Enfield & Chums, The Fast Show and Harry & Paul. He is perhaps best known for The Fast Show, where he played characters like Ron Manager and Arthur Atkinson, as well as Ted, whom he also portrayed in a full-length spin-off. He also created the television series Happiness and more recently starred in the BBC series Mortimer And Whitehouse: Gone Fishing.

Only Fools And Horses The Musical, directed by Caroline Jay Ranger, opens at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on Tuesday 19th February 2019 (previews from Saturday 9th February 2019).
