The Full Cast Announced for the Upcoming Chichester Festival Theatre Production in the West End

In December it was announced that the Chichester Festival Theatre production of The Pajama Game would be headed to the Shaftesbury Theatre with Joanna Riding and Michael Xavier in lead roles. The production, set in a pajama factory, is going to be directed by Richard Eyre and lands in the West End in May 2014.

Now more has emerged about the production, including a full cast list that adds names like Peter Polycarpou and Gary Wilmot to the list, with the latter taking over from the former when he is finished in the role of Vernon Hines in June.

The Pajama Game takes audiences back to 1950s America and it is here that workers demand a wage rise of 7½ cents (the name of the novel on which it is based). The bosses refuse this demand and it causes friction not only between the staff and workers but also between two people falling in love – Sid Sorokin, the new superintendent, and Babe Williams, who represents the workers.

This being a musical there are also numerous songs for audiences with theatre tickets to enjoy. These include Hernando’s Hideaway, I’m Not All In Love and A New Town Is A Blue Town, among others.

The show is based on Richard Bissell’s novel and features a book by Bissell and George Abbott. Richard Adler and Jerry Ross provide the music and lyrics.

Peter Polycarpou appeared in the production at the Chichester Festival Theatre and will reprise his role until 31st May 2014, with Gary Wilmot taking over from 2nd June 2014. Polycarpou’s other credits include The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre and Sweeney Todd at the Chichester Festival Theatre. His has also appeared in television programmes like EastEnders and Waking The Dead.

Other newly announced cast members include Colin Stinton, Keisha Amponsa Banson, Dan Burton, Jennie Dale, Nolan Frederick, Alexis Owen Hobbs, Richard Jones, Siôn Lloyd, Claire Machin, Eugene McCoy, Jo Morris, James O’Connell, Lauren Varnham and Sharon Wattis.

Following From Here To Eternity, The Pajama Game is at the Shaftesbury Theatre from Tuesday 13th May 2014 (previews from Thursday 1st May 2014) to Saturday 13th September 2014.
