Million Dollar Quartet Joins Ghost Stories and We Will Rock You as It Extends its Stay in the West End

Having opened its doors only relatively recently (the end of February), “Million Dollar Quartet” has announced a booking extension that will take it well beyond its original end-date of October 2011. It will now join a wealth of famous musicals in the capital – such as “Mamma Mia!”, “Thriller Live” and “Legally Blonde” - that are taking bookings into 2012 as it sets a new end-date of Saturday 28th April 2012. This is an extension of almost seven months at its home of the Noel Coward Theatre.

“Million Dollar Quartet” focuses on a real-life meet-up between four of the best known musicians of an era – with recording sessions that would eventually become known by the same name as this show. This meet-up was between Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis, with the four coincidentally in the same recording facility at the same time and relishing in the opportunity to work together. When the incident happened in the 1950s it spawned recordings that would eventually be made available many decades earlier in what is generally cited as the first rock supergroup.

The show features the performing talents of Ben Goddard, Michael Malarkey, Bill Ward, Francesca Jackson and Derek Hagen, with news emerging towards the end of last month that Oliver Seymour-Marsh would be joining the cast full-time having previously portrayed real life musicians like Buddy Holly in “The Buddy Holly Story”. He took on the role on a UK and European tour and has also appeared in touring versions of West End favourites like “Dreamboats & Petticoats”.

“Million Dollar Quartet” is not the only London theatre show that has recently announced a booking extension, however, with both “We Will Rock You” and “Ghost Stories” announcing their own extensions only last month. They are now booking to Saturday 22nd October 2011 and Sunday 2nd October 2011 respectively. Meanwhile, yesterday also saw the Gielgud Theatre’s “The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg” announcing an early closure in the West End on Saturday 21st May 2011.

Million Dollar Quartet continues at the Noel Coward Theatre and is now booking to Saturday 28th April 2012.
