Rebecca rumoured for the West End

Monday, 29th Nov 2010

A new musical adaptation of Rebecca is rumoured to be opening in the West End next year.

Translated from a German-language production which debuted in 2006, the show is to be directed by Michael Blakemore.

Based on the Daphne Du Maurier novel, it tells the story of the young bride of a wealthy Cornish widower who moves into his country home, only to find that she is living in the shadow of his glamorous first wife Rebecca.

Confronted by the hostile housekeeper Mrs Danvers, the young woman finds herself drawn into a world of secrets surrounding the mysterious Manderley and its former occupier.

It is thought that the new musical may replace Flashdance, which is scheduled to close at the Shaftsbury Theatre on January 15th 2011.

Starring Victoria Hamilton-Barritt and former Busted member Matt Willis, the show features tracks from the film including the Oscar-winning theme tune What A Feeling.
