Ben Whishaw, Brendan Cole and Daniel Mays Also Starring in the Revival of the Jez Butterworth Classic

Rupert Grint will make his stage debut later in the year when he features in the revival of Jez Butterworth’s Mojo at the Harold Pinter Theatre. The Harry Potter actor is set to appear alongside Skyfall’s Q, Ben Whishaw, as well as Brendan Coyle an Daniel Mays when the production runs at the West End venue from October 2013.

The news is being reported by Baz Bamigboye in the Daily Mail, among other sources, and will mark the return of a play that first appeared at the Royal Court Theatre in 1995 from Jerusalem writer Jez Butterworth. The original production was directed by Ian Rickson and he returns to direct the new edition as well.

Moko is set in the 1950s and takes place in the underbelly of Soho, with the rock ‘n’ roll scene as its backdrop, with Grint taking on the role of Sweets, a minor hood. We meet characters like Silver Johnny as well, a rising star who could find huge success were it not for the manager of the Atlantic Club in the infamous district.

In addition to the play that featured in London in the 1990s Butterworth also wrote and directed the movie version which appeared in 1997.

Rupert Grint is of course best known for portraying Ron Weasley in all of the Harry Potter movies from The Philosopher’s Stone right through to The Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Beyond these screen roles he also appeared in Thunderpants and Cherrybomb, among others, whilst television roles have included a guest role on the American television series American Dad. Mojo will mark his stage debut and it will follow in the footsteps of his Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe who has appeared in Equus and, in 2013, The Cripple of Inishmaan.

The Harold Pinter Theatre is currently the home of Merrily We Roll Along until Saturday 27th July 2013. It is followed by Chimerica, which opens on Tuesday 6th August 2013.

Jez Butterworth’s Mojo will then run at the West End venue from Saturday 26th October 2013.
