Simon Jones and Jemima Rooper Also Joining the Likes of Angela Lansbury in the Upcoming Production

Back in November it was revealed that Angela Lansbury would be portraying Madame Arcati in Noel Coward’s classic play Blithe Spirit alongside Janie Dee, Charles Edwards and Patsy Ferran. Now more cast members have been announced for the upcoming West End production at the Gielgud Theatre and they are Sandra Dickinson, who will portray a friend to the main characters alongside Simon Jones, and Jemima Rooper, who plays ghostly ex-wife Elvira.

Coward’s play has been seen in the West End on numerous occasions, most recently at the Apollo Theatre under the direction of Thea Sharrock, but this version will likely drum up considerable attention thanks to its star cast. It tells the story of writer Charles who hires a medium called Madame Arcati to entertain his dinner guests, hoping to find inspiration along the way, but it soon becomes clear that she is the real deal. Conjuring up the spirit of his dead wife, he must face a vengeful ghost who is not too happy about his current marriage to Ruth.

Sandra Dickinson has appeared in a wealth of roles over the years, ranging from television comedy likes White Van Man, The Amazing World Of Gumball, 2 Point 4 Children and the original television version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy to dramas like Casualty and Tales From The Crypt. Her stage work has also seen her appear in numerous pantomimes over the years, including productions of Cinderella and Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, in addition to west end shows like It Runs In The Family at the Playhouse Theatre and The Graduate at the Gielgud Theatre.

The production is one of many to appear at the Gielgud Theatre this year, which is currently the home of Strangers On A Train, as the venue is set to become the new home of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time. The latter show had previously been showing at the Apollo Theatre prior to last month’s ceiling collapse.

Blithe Spirit is at the Gielgud Theatre from Tuesday 18th March 2014 (previews from Saturday 1st March 2014) to Saturday 7th June 2014.
