Dr. Seuss's The Lorax - Old Vic Theatre

Cast your minds back to 2015 and you might remember the successful adaptation of Dr Seuss’ The Lorax, which opened at the Old Vic Theatre in the latter months of the year.

Towards the end of last year we heard the news that that production would be returning to the same venue in October 2017. Once again Max Webster directs from David Greig’s script and audiences will have a chance to spend time with the moustache-wearing creature during its three-week run.

Now, however, we know the names of those set to tread the boards at the Old Vic, with Simon Paisley Day returning to the show alongside David Ricardo-Pearce as the eponymous Lorax.

The Lorax is the woodland creature who stands up for the tress around him, protecting them from environmental issues, namely those caused by the businessman called the Once-ler (Day).

Like many of Seuss’ works the show features many colourful characters and thanks to its memorable story and clear environmental message it has maintained a place as a popular show with audiences around the world. As such it stands alongside other Seuss favourites like How The Grinch Stole Christmas and The Cat In The Hat.

Simon Paisley Day returns to the show as the Once-ler, providing audiences with his well-seasoned performing skills in the capital. The performer is no stranger to the stage, after all, with extensive credits on some of the capital’s most prestigious stages.

He has appeared at the National Theatre in shows like Twelfth Night and Love’s Labour’s Lost, Shakespeare’s Globe in The Taming Of The Shrew and the West End in Private Lives (Vaudeville) and Entertaining Mr Sloane (Trafalgar Studios). He has also starred in shows like Urinetown at the St James Theatre (now The Other Palace) and The Low Road at the Royal Court Theatre.

As well as Day and the mentioned David Ricardo-Pearce, the cast will also include Michael Ajao, Joseph Alessi, Josh Baker, Jack Beale, Hannah Fairclough, Owain Gwynn, Wendy Mae Brown, Kirsty Malpass, Kerri Norville, Ellena Vincent and Silas Wyatt-Barke.

The Lorax runs at the Old Vic Theatre from Sunday 15th October 2017.
