All About Eve - Noel Coward Theatre

It has been a while since we last heard from the upcoming production of All About Eve, which is set to begin performances at the Noël Coward Theatre in February, with word first emerging of stars Gillian Anderson and Lily James’ involvement back in September.

Now, with December (and, with it, 2018) almost behind us we get word that Stanley Townsend is going to play Addison DeWitt in the show as his and more names are added to the cast. He joins alongside Ian Drysdale, Tsion Habte, Charles Hagerty, Grace Stone and Philip Voyzey, as well as the previously announced Rhashan Stone, Sheila Reid and Monica Dolan.

Ivo van Hove directs the show from a script he adapted from the 1950 film version, with Gillian Anderson playing the lead role of Margo Channing, the 40-year-old Broadway star, and Lily James playing Eve Harrington, the young fan whose entry into her life turns it upside down. Audiences might remember that the 1950s film version starred Bette Davis in the lead role of Margo, making the part into an iconic character, so it is only fitting that someone of the calibre of Gillian Anderson has been recruited to bring this character back to the public consciousness in 2019.

And now there is also Stanley Townsend in a lead role, ready to entice audiences further. Townsend has appeared in a range of shows on both the stage and screen and will be familiar to theatregoers for appearances in the likes of The Nether at the Royal Court Theatre, The Plough and the Stars at the Young Vic Theatre and Guys & Dolls at the National Theatre, amongst many others.

So his presence in All About Eve further elevates an already-stellar cast, one of many high profile shows to land in the West End in 2019 with some familiar names taking on lead roles.

To see those cast in All About Eve, audiences can catch the production when it runs at the Noël Coward Theatre from Tuesday 12th February 2019 (previews from Saturday 2nd February 2019).
