School of Rock - New London Theatre

Two performers have embodied the part of lead character Dewey Finn in the New London theatre’s School of Rock since the stage adaptation opened its doors there in November 2016.

David Fynn was the first, originating the part, and he has since been replaced by Gary Trainor. But from the middle of next month audiences will be experiencing another Dewey Finn as Stephen Leask, who has already been alternating in the part, steps up to the lead cast full time.

He is the latest performer to follow in the footsteps of Jack Black, who played the part in the 2003 film on which this musical is based, as they embody the character who takes on an unexpected journey as he finds himself teaching a classroom full of students.

Dewey Finn is down-on-his-luck. He has just been kicked out of his band and he doesn’t have a job, so the temptation to pose as his housemate and take his place at a school as a substitute teacher gets the better of him. He doesn’t know anything about teaching, but decides to go for it anyway, with the curriculum proving to be a bit too much for him. So to succeed in the classroom he falls back on his first great passion – music – and creates rock stars out of his students so that they can win the battle of the bands.

With Stephen Leask stepping up to Dewey Finn full time audiences will be in safe hands. Not only has the performer already been alternating as the music-loving character he has also amassed a range of credits around the capital and beyond. He has appeared in shows at the Theatre Royal Bath on numerous occasions and also appeared in London in One Man, Two Guvnors at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, Potted Panto at the Vaudeville Theatre, Staunch at Theatre 503 and The Revenge Of Sherlock Holmes at Hoxton Hall.

In addition to Stephen Leask, further cast members also join on Wednesday 15th November 2017 and they include Michelle Francis and Alan Pearson, with Craig Gallivan taking over from Leask as the alternate Dewey Finn.

School Of Rock continues at the New London Theatre and is booking there for performances up to Sunday 13th January 2019.
