Television Actor to Appear Alongside Todd Carty and Anna-Jane Casey in the Latest Edition of the West End Revival

News concerning the upcoming revival of “Monty Python’s Spamalot” trickles in this week as Stephen Tompkinson is revealed for the lead role of King Arthur. The former “Ballykissangel” star will appear alongside Todd Carty and Anna-Jane Casey in the production, which is a story largely inspired by the movie “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”.

The show is set to appear at the Playhouse Theatre from November, following its appearance at the Harold Pinter Theatre in the summer (which featured the show’s touring cast).

Stephen Tompkinson is a well known actor who has appeared in many different television shows over the years. These have included recent shows like “Wild At Heart” and “DCI Banks” and shows further back in the schedules with the popular “Ballykissangel”.
However, he has also enjoyed a successful stage career, which has undoubtedly fuelled producers’ decision to award him the role of Arthur. These credits include “Arsenic and Old Lace” at the Strand Theatre (now the Novello Theatre) in 2003, “Cloaca” at the Old Vic Theatre in 2004 and “Rattle of a Simple Man” at the Comedy Theatre (now the Harold Pinter Theatre) in 2004. More recently he has also appeared in “Faith and the Cold Reading” at the Live Theatre, Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Todd Carty has also amassed numerous credits, though his best known work has been in high profile and popular television shows like “EastEnders”, “The Bill”, “Grange Hill” and also “Dancing on Ice”. For the stage he has appeared in various pantomimes around the country, including “Cinderella” at the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing during the 2009 Christmas season.

“Monty Python’s Spamalot” hits the Playhouse Theatre, which was the home of “Dreamboats and Petticoats” until August, this November. It transfers from the Harold Pinter Theatre, which has since seen “A Chorus of Disapproval” land on its stage, with “Old Times” recently announced as its replacement in January.

As it stands “Monty Python’s Spamalot” is at the Playhouse Theatre from Saturday 24th November 2012 (previews from Wednesday 14th November 2012) to Saturday 13th April 2013. No word yet on whether the show will continue past this end date.
