The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - Piccadilly Theatre

For those that missed out on The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time when it last played in the West End, the sadness of missing out one of the most critically-acclaimed shows of recent years must weigh heavily. But fear not! The Simon Stephens play, based on Mark Haddon’s equally-acclaimed novel, is returning to the capital for a brief Christmas run at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Marianne Elliot’s direction, Luke Treadaway’s lead performance and Simon Stephens’ fantastic script all combined into something truly special when it first emerged at the Cottesloe National Theatre (now the Dorfman) in 2012 and this lead to great success when it transferred to the West End, firstly at the Apollo Theatre (where a ceiling-collapse forced its closure) and then at the Gielgud Theatre.

So its return can’t come soon enough and whilst the cast, including the lead actor taking on the role of Christopher Boone, is yet-to-be-announced, it is likely to feature some wonderful performances.

The show’s story centres on the mentioned Christopher, whose discovery of the body of Mrs Shear’s dog one morning sets events in motion. Christopher sets out to solve the mystery of the dog’s death, not only to soothe his curiosity but also to clear his name. After all, his behavioural problems, along with him being discovered by the body, have made him the prime suspect in the community.

Mark Haddon’s book is admired the world over and so its transition to the stage was met with great anticipation, which led not only to West End success but also Broadway success too.

It is brought to the stage by director Marianne Elliot, a regular of the National Theatre shoe work has included Season’s Greetings, Angels In America and The Light Princess in recent years, alongside the mega hit War Horse, which ran at the National Theatre and New London theatre (before its name change to the Gillian Lynne Theatre).

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time makes its way to the Piccadilly Theatre on Thursday 29th November 2018.
