Top Girls heads to Trafalgar Studios

The Production is Currently Running at Chichester’s Minerva Theatre and Heads to the West End in August

Audiences picking up Theatre Tickets at the Minerva Theatre in Chichester will undoubtedly be relishing in the venue’s current show “Top Girls” from director Max Stafford-Clark. According to today’s report audiences in the West End will soon get to follow suit as it has been announced that the show is to get a transfer to Trafalgar Studios 1 from August. It will be an opportunity for audiences in Theatreland to witness the acting talents of performers like Suranne Jones, recently seen in the “Doctor Who” episode “The Doctor’s Wife”.

“Top Girls” first made its way to the stage in 1982 at the Royal Court Theatre (under the direction of Stafford-Clarke) and tells the story of Marlene (Jones),who is a hard-nosed businesswoman at Top Girls Employment Agency playing host at a dinner party that celebrates her promotion. With a colourful array of guests in attendance, including powerful women known in history, it is going to make for an interesting and memorable evening.

Suranne Jones is best known to London theatre audiences for her role in the television series “Coronation Street”, in which she portrayed Karen McDonald. However, since leaving the show she has appeared in a wide range of television programmes from “Scott & Bailey” to “Five Days”. She also recently guest-starred in the “Doctor Who” episode “The Doctor’s Wife”, whilst appearing alongside the former Doctor, David Tennant, in “Single Father”. Her other credits include “The Sarah Jane Adventure”, “Strictly Confidential”, “Vincent” and “Harley Street”.

Director Max Stafford-Clark has been behind a wealth of shows all over the country, from the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh to The National Theatre, Royal Court and Lyric Hammersmith. A the co-founder of the Joint Stock Theatre Company and founder of Out Of Joint, with credits like “Top Girls” at the Royal Court in 1982 (when he was the Artistic Director of the Royal Court), “Duck” at the Royal Court, “The Permanent Way” at the National Theatre and “The Big Fellah” at the Lyric Hammersmith.

In addition to Suranne Jones, Stafford-Clark will also be directing Lucy Briers, Laura Elphinstone, Stella Gonet, Lisa Kerr, Catherine McCormack and Olivia Poulet.

“Top Girls” is at the Trafalgar Studios 2 from Tuesday 16th August 2011 (previews from Friday 5th August 2011) to Saturday 15th October 2011.
