The Ferryman - Gielgud Theatre

It’s not often we get so many booking extensions to report at once, but that’s exactly what has happened this week as we reveal the new dates for six west end shows.

They are Kinky Boots at the Adelphi Theatre, The Ferryman at the Gielgud Theatre, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical at the Lyric Theatre, 42nd Street at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Les Misérables at the Queen’s Theatre and The Woman in Black at the Fortune Theatre.

Kinky Boots is the musical set in Northampton that focuses on the unique way in which a man turns his family shoe factory around, with songs from Cyndi Lauper. It opened at the Adelphi Theatre back in 2015 and has extended many times since then, with the latest taking it to Saturday 30th June 2018.

The Ferryman, meanwhile, is a different beast altogether. The Sam Mendes-directed play is the latest from acclaimed writer Jez Butterworth and concerns a Derry family and an unusual visitor to their home. It first appeared at the Royal Court Theatre and opened at the Gielgud in June 2017, with its latest extension taking it to Saturday 19th May 2018.

A more recent addition to the West End, meanwhile, is Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, which reappeared in the West End earlier this month with a new run at the Lyric Theatre. The show does exactly what it says on the tin, with a unique performance each night of the week, and is now booking at the West End venue for performances to Monday 9th July 2018.

Extending further into the year is 42nd Street, the stage adaptation of the classic story, which plays at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Delving into musical theatre (albeit on Broadway instead of the West End), it concerns a dancer who gets her big break. It has now extended to Saturday 20th October 2018.

All of those have opened in recent years, but the last two on this list are long-running shows in the capital, one of which is the longest running West End musical that is continuing strong in its fourth decade. Les Misérables opened in the capital in 1985 and is now booking at the Queen’s Theatre for performances up to Saturday 20th October 2018. Meanwhile, The Woman In Black (which celebrates its 30th birthday in 2019) has extended at the Fortune Theatre to Saturday 26th January 2019.
