Two New Extensions for West End Musicals

Monday, 10th Oct 2011

Thriller Live and Rock Of Ages Add New Dates at the Lyric Theatre and Shaftesbury Theatre Respectively

More extensions have been announced for West End musicals recently and this time around they take the forms of “Thriller Live” and “Rock of Ages”, the latter of which has only recently opened its doors at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Both shows will run until the Autumn of 2012, with “Thriller Live” extending to September and “Rock of Ages” to October. Both productions are jukebox musicals that have had success prior to arriving in the West End.

“Thriller Live” is a celebration of the life of Michael Jackson and was devised (and opened) prior to the King of Pop’s death in 2009. At that point it was a celebration of his life up to then and after his death the production was reworked to accommodate the news. It looks at every era of his career, from his early days in the Jackson 5 to his later career as a solo artist and as a result audiences can enjoy songs ranging from "ABC” to huge hits like “Billie Jean”, “Earth Song”, “Show You The Way To Go”, “She's Out Of My Life”, “Rock With You”, “I Want You Back”, “I'll Be There”, “Ben”, “Beat It” and, of course, “Thriller”.

It is now booking to Sunday 23rd September 2012.

“Rock of Ages”, meanwhile, takes many hits of the 1980s and integrates them seamlessly into a narrative about a small town girl named Sherrie arriving in LA and being drawn to LA rocker Drew and together bonding over their love of glam rock. Set within LA’s most famous rock club the audience enjoys hit songs that include “We Built This City”, “Don’t Stop Believin’”, “The Final Countdown” and “I Wanna Know”, among others.

Recently it was announced that “Rock of Ages” would also be holding a special gala performance at its home of the Shaftesbury Theatre on Wednesday 16th November 2011. The show will be attended by BBC London 94.9fm presenters like Tony Blackburn, among others, with proceeds going to “Children in Need”.

It is now booking at the Shaftesbury Theatre until Saturday 20th October 2012.
