War of the Worlds tour 'uses cutting-edge technology'

Friday, 3rd Dec 2010

The new touring production of War of the Worlds is using state-of-the-art technology to bring the story to life.

Jeff Wayne, the composer of the classic album that provides the music for the tour, told the Daily Record that cutting-edge technology is being used to project a huge image of Richard Burton on to the stage.

Burton featured on the original album and an 11-foot high 3D hologram of him is used in the show to narrate the story created by H G Wells of Martians attacking Earth.

Wayne explained that the show uses "photographs of Richard from the right age range of the character and used motion capture to make the head move freely".

He added that the figure also interacts with the show's stars, including Jason Donovan, Liz McLarnon and Rhydian Roberts.

Kicking off at Newcastle Arena last night (December 2nd 2010), the UK leg of the European tour will also visit cities including Manchester, Bournemouth and Brighton throughout the month.
