About Dear England

Prepare for a thrilling kickoff as you witness Dear England take the stage at the Prince Edward Theatre. Book your tickets for Dear England on Box Office.

Watch Joseph Fiennes as Gareth Southgate in Dear England, as he brings to life the manager’s determined mission to reshape the nation’s cherished national football team.

Dear England traces the journey of the England men's football team between 2016 to 2022, from unexpected victories and heartbreaking losses. The production also tackles themes of identity, national pride, and the weight of representing England's national team on the global stage.

Meet the players and follow their journeys under Southgate’s leadership, both on and off the pitch. Throughout the play, encounter amusing caricatures of famous figures, including well-known football figures, and even politicians, adding a satirical and light-hearted element to the show.

Playwright James Graham is collaborating with director Rupert Goold once again after working together previously on Tammy Faye and Ink. Dear England made its premiere at the National Theatre, and will transfer to the West End’s Prince Edward Theatre for a strictly 14-week limited period.

Fast paced, Great directing, Slick set

See it if you're in for a well-made, captivating & entertaining play about England's current national soccer team, a metaphor for the country itself.

Don’t see it if even if you don't like sports or soccer you will find a lot to like here, though at nearly 3 hours the show is in need of some hard editing

Sports metaphor on emotional health

See it if Excellent story on how the English needs to learn to get in touch with their emotions, esp. the rage after losses. Joseph's fine performance

Don’t see it if Male macho-ness meets therapy speak (vulnerability, fear, coping mechanisms), less about actual sports.
