The Olivier award-winning psychologically thrilling opera returns.
Trapped in a loveless marriage and under the authoritative rule of her mother-in-law, a young and
vulnerable woman is swept up in a passionate affair. But desire soon turns to despair as alternating waves of longing and guilt consume Kat’a, leading to tragedy...
Janáček’s evocative opera of despair comes alive in Richard Jones’ intimate and stripped back staging, starring Corinne Winters in the titular role. In the pit, Jakub Hrůša draws out the expressive lines of the Czech composer’s score, which is infused with traditional folk melodies of his home country.
Sung in Czech with English surtitles, which are displayed on screens above the stage and around the auditorium.
